Vintage Icons: Daring Delight Divas.

Ladies & Gentlemen, it’s been a while since last post, but the Quote a Gentleman team is working hard to get the new web & news site up and running. We will keep you informed here on this site when we shortly are ready to launch. Until then enjoy these über cool & yet very sophisticated ladies in red, white & black. It simply doesn’t have to be more complicated than that. Find the right shaped sunglasses, put on red lipstick – it always works and wear avant-garde black pieces that fit your personal style. Then hit town and enjoy how you make people’s day more vibrant and wild because you know how to dress individually. Talking about dressing individually these days – it’s a whole different subject to be discussed. Until next time – check also our Facebook profile for more trend updates and vintage icons.

Vintage Exhibition: Miuccia Prada & Elsa Schiaparelli.

The Italian fashion designer Miuccia Prada (1949 -).

The Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli (1890–1973).

Ladies & Gentlemen, it was annonced last week that iconic Italian female designers Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli will be the subject of the next exhibit at the Met’s Costume Institute, NYC. The double designer feature is unexpected, but makes sense when one considers the subjects’ similar trademarks and quirky-sophisticated aesthetics. There hasn’t been offered many details yet on the exhibition, but the show will debut next spring after this year’s contribute to Alexander McQueen.

Vintage Icons: Ladies from Mars?

Ladies & Gentlemen, an always favorite is the excellent blog Advanced Style capturing great divas and true gentlemen from the streets of New York city. Some of the more colorful and inspiring ladies are Jean and Valerie, The Idiosyncratic Fashionistas who has an aim that dressing should be fun and expressive and not taken too seriously. Notice their great eye for details, pattern mix, layers, ‘the more the merrier’, avant-garde & sophisticated jewelry, hats & sunglasses. Quote a Gentleman wouldn’t mind going shopping with these two ladies. Happy Monday!

Vintage Shop: What Goes Around Comes Around.

The NYC based vintage shop What Goes Around Comes Around consists of a blend of high-end women’s and men’s vintage. The co-founders Gerard Maione and Seth Weisser have been collecting and selling vintage for over 17 years. The pair has amassed thousands of vintage pieces that are housed primarily in the company’s 10,000 square foot archive in New Jersey, with pieces constantly rotating between the New York City and Los Angeles stores. Although Maione and Weisser have a soft spot for the 1960s, their vintage collection spans every decade since the 1920s and stretches as far back as the late 1800s, consisting of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, accessories and props. The store is rather popular and has been for years among stylists, designers and celebrities, which is reflected on the price. Don’t expect to do a bargain but enjoy the great Chanel jewelery collection.

Vintage Home: A Pencil Skecth of a Stuffed Bird.

Ladies & gentlemen it is only to admire and get inspired of how the artist Bailey Hunter Robinson in a very unique way brings two different worlds together. In an interview with the blog acontinuouslean Bailey describes that “the vintage furniture and tattooing aren’t too far apart – everything in the studio has a story and a history.” What inspires Bailey is the very specific style of tattooing a pre-1930s true Americana or old English style. In the old days the outlines were a little thinner, there was much more detail. “I’ve been much more of a 1910s carnival tattooer”. Get into Bailey Hunters magical universe and find that little outline, framed bird, pencil sketch, old Brimfield chair or look at the creative hands and feel the moment of doing something different or inspire others by inviting them into your universe.

Vintage Inspiration: The Kid Inside You.

Ladies & Gentlemen we all have a kid inside us. For some people a more hidden side but it is time to explore and let this kid out in the wild. One of my frequently visit to the New York based Hells Kitchen antique fleamarket totally got me back to a world and a univers, where creativity, innovation, asking questions about everything, being critical, playful, wild and experimenting were the keywords in life. It’s time to go back – look and see what is hidden and let me know what you find. It only inspires others!
